Extended School Year - Summer School
The Orleans/Niagara BOCES holds a six-week full day special education summer program for students with a wide range of disabilities and needs; this program is known as the Extended School Year (ESY) program. The goal of the Extended School Year program is to help students maintain the skills that they learned during the school year. Engaging theme-based lessons, field trips, and special programs keep the 332 students that register from regressing during the summer months.
Along with the classroom instruction that is focused on literacy, the program also includes:
Speech/Language Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Physical Therapy
Vision Services
Hearing Services
Orientation and Mobility
Counseling
The 2025 Extended School Year program will begin with a mandatory staff orientation on July 8, 2025. Students will report on July 9, 2025. The last day of the program will be August 19, 2025, for both students and staff.
Our theme for the 2025 ESY Program is:
"Through the Decades"
This summer’s Extended School Year program at O/N BOCES, themed "Learning through the Decades," offers a vibrant, engaging six-week experience for students every Monday through Friday at our designated learning center locations. This innovative program is designed to help students maintain their skills over the summer through a variety of fun and interactive activities that celebrate the unique characteristics and celebrations of each decade. Students and staff will enjoy field trips, special guest appearances, and building-wide activities that complement the theme, all while engaging in hands-on lessons tailored to their individualized educational goals. By immersing students in an energetic, experiences-rich environment, ESY 2025 not only fosters academic growth but also encourages a love for learning that lasts long after the summer ends.
There will be five sites this year. They are:
Orleans Learning Center, Medina NY
Roy-Hart Learning Center, Gasport NY
BOCES NT Learning Center, North Tonawanda NY
Niagara Academy - Newfane Learning Center, Sanborn
Niagara Academy - Godfrey Learning Center, Sanborn
The Extended School Year has a new application process, this year there will no longer be hard copy applications. All applications will be completed on the Hiring and Recruiting website link noted below.

The second one is for internal Orleans/Niagara BOCES full-time employees. Deadline March 1, 2025
