Computer Technology Student Presents at ACTEA Conference
Nathaniel Wolf, a senior in the Orleans Career and Technical Education Center’s (OCTEC) Computer Technology, recently participated in the Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators (ACTEA) Leadership Conference in Fayetteville, New York. ACTEA advocates that career and technical education is a fundamental solution and vehicle for education reform.
Nathaniel, a Royalton-Hartland student, spoke to over 100 administrators and educators about his experience competing at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. He brought home a bronze medal in his competition. “It was a lot of fun presenting at the conference even though it was nerve-wracking,” he said. “All the students who presented had attended the Nationals, so we all bonded over that. It was also a great way to work on my public speaking skills as I talked about my experience in Mr. Herrmann’s class and being a member of SkillsUSA.” SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college and middle school students and professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.
Paul Herrmann is Nathaniel’s Computer Technology teacher at OCTEC. “Mr. Herrmann is my favorite teacher ever. He is really great. What I like about BOCES is that you learn through the eyes of the field you are interested in. Most of the work in high school and college is text book based and here its more hands-on experience and I love that.”
