When 2016 Electricity/Electronics graduate Isaac Dauphin ran into his former Orleans Career and Technical Education Center (OCTEC) teacher Bill Leggett at a Buffalo Bills game, he never suspected that the outcome would be a change in career. “We were talking, and I told him how much I admired all the years he spent teaching, and I was thinking of potentially becoming a teacher myself, “says Dauphin. “He mentioned that they were looking to hire someone at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center (NCTEC) for the Electricity/Electronics program and I should apply. So I did.”
After graduating from Royalton-Hartland High School, Dauphin went on to Alfred State College to continue his studies in Applied Technology. While there he became very actively involved in philanthropy work and community outreach through his fraternity Gamma Theta Gamma such as Relay for Life and working with the suicide prevention center on campus. “I did over 60 hours of community service and it is something I really enjoy – giving back to the community.”
After he graduated, he worked as an Electrical Assistant, an Electrician and moved up to being an Electrical Foreman. He will now be one of the two Electricity/Electronics teachers at the NCTEC along with Logan Spain. “I am really looking forward to working with the students and the staff here,” he says. “I have had so many staff members approach me and tell me if I need anything at all they are here for me, which has been great. I am hoping to teach my students real world applications in class by incorporating my own experiences in the field and at Alfred State with the goal of preparing them for success in the workforce or in continuing their education. I will make sure they are well-equipped for life after graduation.”
Mr. Leggett says he is very proud of Isaac. “He was a great student and a great person. There is no doubt that he will be a great teacher. I know he will be a real asset at Orleans/Niagara BOCES.”
