Orleans Career and Technical Education Center teacher Gene Newman loves it when graduates from his Security and Law Enforcement program come back to visit.
Recently Lockport graduate Dalvan Robinson paid a visit in his Air Force uniform with two Air Force recruiters Staff Sergeant Brendan Smith and Airman First Class Ponevilly Vongsay. Dalvan is now an Airman First Class stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico. He enjoyed talking to the current students about his experience in the Security and Law Enforcement program and why he chose the Air Force after graduation. “I felt like this class really prepared me for the military. All the things I learned in class I do as part of my duties in the Air Force. I am really enjoying it and it is a fantastic opportunity to have my college paid for after I am done serving.”
Mr. Newman is not surprised that Dalvan is succeeding with his new career. “He is a true leader. He always had a great skill set and is exactly the kind of person the Air Force is looking for as part of their security forces. It is the path I took in the Air Force as well and I knew he would be the perfect candidate. He was a leader to all his classmates and I knew I could always count on him. I am very proud of him and grateful he came in to talk to my current classes.”
