Sheriff's Deputy with child in cardboard police car

Student teachers, at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center's (NCTEC) Preschool Learning Center, were recently teaching their preschoolers about Police and Firefighters.

The Early Childhood Education class' preschool team invited NCTEC's new School Resource Officer (SRO), Sheriff's Deputy Travis Yantomasi, to come meet the preschoolers and share a little bit about his job.

One of the student teachers, Elijah Miron (North Tonawanda), enjoys crafting in his free time and thought it would be fun for the preschoolers to have a different large muscle/gross motor activity. He crafted some police cars for the children to not only move around with but also to role play being a police officer. The idea came to him when he saw the children's reaction to seeing the deputy's cruiser and being startled by how loud the siren was. He felt that the role-playing would be a great way for the children to process what they had seen and to not be scared when they see or hear a police car. The children loved playing with the police cars!
